Some of the ideas we talked about incorporating into this years fundraiser schedule included:
- dog wash
- dog show
- selling pet treats
- pet walks (5k run/walk)
- psychic fair
- motorcycle rally
- adoption convention
- "fill a truck" (Hutcheson-Ford)
Many of these fundraisers would require vendors, demonstrations and other fun things to keep people engaged and excited. If you know anybody who is interested in becoming a vendor at one of our events, please let me know. :)
I'm still working through my notes and getting them organized to write a more "profesh" article about what we talked about. If you would like to share any thoughts and ideas about fundraisers or anything, please comment.
Years ago I remember a fund-raiser in which the group was loaned a stock tank by a farm store. The tank was filled with the appropriate mixture of water and flea/tick dip. People brought their dogs by to take a swim or be dunked into the tank for donations. Dog owners brought their own towels for drying. Cost to the shelter would be the dip and gloves (to protect the volunteers skin from the flea/tick dip), possibly protective goggles and advertising unless you found a company to donate the dip and could get the ads donated too. Very easy fund-raiser and very needed in the summer. A great location would be a farm store, vet or car wash (with an attached dog wash for those that want to wash their dog first).
